Review of: Hanwei / Tinker Sharp Early Medieval Sword
Received this item today, so these are simply initial thoughts and impressions.
It looks pretty good. No defects noted yet. Sheath is black leather, not sure if genuine leather or not. Nice cap on the bottom with a flat tip for resting the sheathed sword on the ground. Draw is fairly easy, but with a nice snug fit with a fair amount of resistance. Sword does rattle a bit in the tip of the sheath.
Grip appears to be made of the same leather as the sheath. Pommel is very shiny. Smears and shows any amount off fingerprints or oil from the hand quite easily.
Now for the fun stuff. I haven't done much with it yet, but I did give a few practice swings. Appears to be quite well balanced. Balance point is approximately 5 inches above the crossguard. As to be expected from 5160 carbon steel, the blade is bendy. Like, very, very springy and bendy. The blade is sharp, but not super sharp. Blade gradually increases in sharpness as you proceed to the tip, all as expected.
All in all, I'm fairly pleased. So far, I feel I got exactly what was advertised and expected.

Review of: De Joinville Sword
I received this today and I absolutely love it. It's a little shorter than I imagined but it's also lighter, as well. Yes, the pommel is rather large, but it brings things nicely into balance. The quillions are beautiful, the blade is perfectly polished, no scratches anywhere. Sharpening was great, too, no burrs, nice and even. The blade is a bit whippier than I had anticipated but it's perfectly fine and functional -- the shorter length of the blade makes up for it. Besides, that just means the heat treatment was done correctly. The peen is nice and rounded off. Everything fits nice and tight. The scabbard is okay, I like the dip it has at the top for the crossguard, and the antique look of the scabbard furniture is nice, too. Oh, and the wood on the handle is perfectly dyed and sandpapered smooth. All in all, a great purchase and a wonderful little short arming sword. Highly recommended.

Review of: Cawood Viking Sword by Paul Chen / Hanwei
This is an amazing replica! The sword is an absolute joy to look at, swing, cut and just plain enjoy. It came with a good edge right out of the box, but a few minutes with a whetstone put a great edge on it.
As soon as I picked the sword up, I knew that I was holding a fine sword. I could imagine what a 13th Century warrior felt as he (or she... Shield Maidens are historic fact) drew this weapon before battle. A certainty that THIS sword will serve well in the coming battle!
The balance is superb. Enough blade presence to let you make dynamic cuts yet feels light in hand and very responsive. The sword seems to almost lead you into the strike and follows every intention. The down-turned quillions give a distinct feel of defensive ability and the acute point makes this sword very capable of both cutting and thrusting making it a superb weapon in the melee. Easily one of the best swords available at any price!

This sword really pleasantly surprised me. The relatively simple design is elegant in its own way, even with the oddly over-sized pommel. It feels sturdy, rugged, like it's meant to be used instead of hung on a wall. It feels very light and nimble in the hand, though a bit hilt heavy (the pommel, no doubt....). The sharpening service was adequate and the fit and finish is excellent for this price range. I ended up actually liking the pommel as it effectively extends the grip to make this a hand and a half sword, essentially. Overall, very pleased and a good bargain for a trusty everyday carry sword.
