Mail Armor & Shields

One of the earliest uses of metal protection was chain mail armor. The use of armor and mail continued through the Renaissance until the presence of gunpowder increased in the 16th century.

Review of: Soldier’s Buckler

Initially I was leery of buying this product due to the gap between the boss and the rest of the buckler, but my concerns were unfounded. I got two of these when they were on sale for the deal of the day and I have been more than pleased with them. They are well balanced and the grip fits comfortably in my hand. The grip runs across the back of the buckler, keeping a low profile and offering great control over the buckler. Overall it is solidly built, able to stand up to the rigors of sparring. This is my new favorite buckler and I look forward to getting more for my club!

Review of: Mail Armor Coif

I just received this and am totally delighted with it.  I wasn't sure how good the quality would be considering the reasonable price but when I pulled it out and examined it, I was very impressed.  I put it on and walked in on my wife and son holding one of my recently acquired swords and once they were done laughing, they both agreed the coif looked very cool and quite authentic.  It fits great and though heavy...(as one would expect)...it is not difficult to wear for a long period.  This would be great at a Renaissance Fair or similar event.  I'm not sure where I'm going to use it but I'm glad I got it and I highly recommend it.

Review of: Mail Armor Shirt

This is my first set of chain mail armor. I was surprised when I opened the package because the mail was clean and shiny. I was expecting a heavy coat of grease like many of the other products I have ordered. The fit is excellent on my XXL frame. The links expand a bit across the chest while bending or flexing. It had a couple of minor gaps in the armpit area but they were easily fixed with some of the spare links that fell out of the package. I will have to enlarge the opening for my head to fit through the hole. This is easily done with two pliers. While butted mail does not offer the same protection as riveted mail, I did not buy this fend off a Danish axe. Highly recommended.
