Review of: Padded Gambeson With Interchangeable Sleeves

This is a well-made, heavily constructed gambeson. Sizing is true; expands well with the buckles.  Not a costume, this is an excellent base layer for functional armor. Take time to break in for sure. I started by hand washing and thoroughly air drying to make things softer (especially the elbows of the long sleeves and the midsection for bending forward. High collar means an arming collar is unnecessary; coif and gorget fit over collar easily. Matches well with the padded arming cap also sold by MR.  The buckles are a bit finicky to fasten, as there is enough play for the buckle to slide through the leather loop on the fixed portion, but once buckled it is very secure. The best feature is the ability to convert from sleeve-less to short or long sleeves at will; if you can lace a shoe you can change this gambeson on the fly. Make no mistake, it's warm. In a southeastern summer renaissance festival I could tolerate long sleeves, short mail, surcoat and several pieces of plate but this may be daunting for the uninitiated. Cannot recommend highly enough for the price.

Review of: Swordsman Buckler

I don't like the acid bath and antiqued finish. It's unnatural looking. My buckler looks like it was stucco textured. I think it would have been nicer just wire brushed.  On to the better things of this buckler. Good size and weight . The boss provides plenty of room for your fist. The 8 rays provide good glancing/guiding surfaces like fluted gothic armor. The reinforced edge is great. The wooden slabs on the steel handle make for a comfortable and solid grip and allow for some of the old manuals vicious moves like the flip and edge punch. I like it except for the stucco finish but nice buckler all in all.

Review of: Swordsman Buckler

Great Buckler. I have been studying sword and buckler manuals and wanted to acquire a usable buckler for practice. This buckler feels good in the hand is just the right size. It is well made and looks good on display when not in actual use. Again, MR you have delivered.

Review of: Augsburg Suit of Armor

Ever since I was a little kid, I wanted a suit of armor in my room or house. After looking around, I saw that Windlass was offering this decorative suit. Unlike so many junky suits I have looked at, yours truly seemed like a historically accurate one. Well, it arrived yesterday! After cleaning the shipping oil off of it, I put this bad boy together! I was like a little kid again! I put him in my office, so I can look at it everyday! This is a beautiful suit!! I had no want to wear it, so this type of suit saved me money (got it on sale!) but looks like it came from an old English castle! Now I'll have to save up for maybe a wearable one, too! LOL

Review of: Battlecry Soldier’s Buckler

Initially I was leery of buying this product due to the gap between the boss and the rest of the buckler, but my concerns were unfounded. I got two of these when they were on sale for the deal of the day and I have been more than pleased with them. They are well balanced and the grip fits comfortably in my hand. The grip runs across the back of the buckler, keeping a low profile and offering great control over the buckler. Overall it is solidly built, able to stand up to the rigors of sparring. This is my new favorite buckler and I look forward to getting more for my club!
