Conan Father’s Sword

Like others, I waited years for this Bad Boi and finally picked it up with the 20% off Black Friday sale.
THE GOOD. Mostly. Shipped superfast by FedEx. "Factory sharpened" blade is actually QUITE sharp, more than enough for the odd slitherer or frost giant. The immortal Words are etched on both sides (which I was concerned about), and perfectly done: they aren't laser-etched but actually engraved - you can feel it with your finger - but just shallowly. As it should be. The blade was completely straight, no waves along the edge. It's heavy, but not as unbalanced as I've seen some folks say. I've certainly held worse. The wrappings on the hilt were tight and regular. Finally, despite the cast parts, when I swing it around it's all quite tight.
Not Good? 1) I felt the deer-head hilt was too wide. Being a hollow cast, that made it look kinda cheap; should be closer to the blade. It also makes it difficult to mount; bringing me to 2) There is no mount. With that wide hilt, a swinging-arm won't even work. The sword deserves a plaque, anyway. SO, off to the hunting area at my store for a trophy plaque and the hardware store for a couple L-hooks. They should prolly include a mount.
Overall, pleased. Nicer blade and easier to handle than I'd predicted.

Wonderful!  The photo doesn't do it justice.  It is breathtaking. There is no way I could have been prepared for how perfect it is.  A warning though.  I wiped some of the oil off of the blade and took a gouge off of my thumb. I didn't realize how sharp "factory sharpened" was.  It is razor sharp. Just be careful. and enjoy owning a masterpiece.

I waited a good long time to get this sword and now it is displayed proudly at in my Armory Room.  It is a gorgeous replica of the most famed sword in movie history! (IMHO)  It is a beefy sword and only a well muscled warrior can wield it well.  Despite that, it is pretty well balanced, and a real joy to look at and show off!  I am glad i did not have it sharpened as some who hold it are surprised by its weight and try to hold it by the blade to steady it!   If you love the 1982 Conan movie, then you need this sword!!!

My Father of Conan's Sword unfortunately failed the quality check at Windlass. The hilt was loose, the pommel off-centered as close to the hilt as possible. Also, the braiding of leather is not straight on the grip. It all looks cheap immediately when you take this sword off your wall. nevertheless, it's cool to be able to make a match on our wall with the Atlantean sword (Marto in my case). The blade is well made and the fact that it is carbon is a plus.

I received this a couple days ago and I am beyond blowed away, very solid sword. The details on it are remarkable and I am one hundred percent satisfied. Love it from top to bottom!

I have three issues with this sword.

1. The rams head on the hilt does not align with the blade.

2. The pommel is twisted out of alignment.

3. The sword rattles when you swing it.

I was expecting better quality for a blade at this price..

I purchased this sword last year, and am still very happy with it.  I own the Albion Atlantean sword, and it's obvious this sword is not near the same level of craftsmanship.  But keep in mind, this sword is 1/10 the price.  And for that price, you're getting a well made, quality, movie replica.  The only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars is : one of my crossguard skulls fell off.  It was an easy fix, but still was not expecting it to fall off from dry handling.  Still, this is an awesome sword, and i'm happy Windlass decided to make a more functional licensed replica!

Fit and finish are very good, now a center piece in my collection. took awhile to get it but well worth the wait. very happy with it I will soon be adding the atlantian sword.

Overall quality is great.  The handle, handguard and pommel are well-built.  The blade is sturdy and wide, they did a great job sharpening it.  The packaging was perfect.  This is a true Conan production sword, you can be rest assured that.  Beware if you are purchasing from other websites, because this sword is now being illegally copied and produced in Ningbo China and not by Windlass Steelcrafts.......  So if you want the real thing make sure you buy from Museum Replicas.....

Aesthetically a nice sword. The bronze finish on the one I received is more of an antiqued brass rather than a bronze finish. The runes on the blade being described as deep is kind of misleading as they do not have any substantial depth into the blade. Rather they are either laser etched or electro chemically etched. Either way the lines of the etching are clean and well defined.
 I ordered mine sharpened. It is very sharp, though one edge was done perfectly straight and the other edge has an obvious wave to it. So do be aware that if you opt for having them sharpen for you it is being done by hand therefore will be subject to possible inconsistency.
 In the hand it is all forward weight. So it wields like a bludgeoning weapon. The assembly components are all tight and secure and it looks great, overall a great buy.
 My reason for giving 4 stars and not 5 is only due to having also purchased the atlantean sword which is a notch above this one.

I have always been a really big fan of the Conan movies and have dreamed of having the swords from the movies.  This one is really nice, not just for the price, but a really nice sword.  The lettering is etched in the the blade and it feels solid.  I am not going to defend against any barbarian hordes but I fits the bill on my game room wall.

I have wanted this sword since I was 11 or 12 years old when posters of the first movie started coming out and the Father's Sword was incorporated as a part of the logo. The novelazation of the script by Lin Carter and L Sprauge DeCamp with details on the sword's construction whetted my appetite before the movie came out. For years the swords were simply not available. The versions made by Albion were ridiculously expensive and the high-end versions by Marto may have looked nice, but were overpriced wall-hangers at best.

Thankfully, Windlass Steelcrafts and Museum Replicas came to the rescue. This sword completely exceeded my expectations in look, feel and execution.

I always order them sharp and whomever sharpened it did an outstanding job with a hair-popping edge. Packaging was perfect to protect the sword in shipping.

The only downsides are there is no display case/box/hanger or a scabbard. It would be nice for MR to offer these in the future, but I can make my own if need be.

Very solid sword, and well made. Extremely detailed.  Ordered sharp, came sharp.  Huge quality difference between this high carbon MRL sword and knockoff stainless ones meant to merely hang on a wall. This sword is substantial and absolutely gorgeous. My only knock (and why I'm not giving 5 stars) is no scabbard.  For the price, I get it...but I wish MRL would at least make/offer a scabbard made for both the Father's Sword and the Atlantean Sword respectively to complete the sets.  As it stands now, your only other options are paying top dollar ($1K or more) to have one custom made, or paying 300 euros to an overseas Italian shop for scabbards made for another company's high-end Conan swords, and hoping for the best.  Hopefully, MRL will address this in the future.
