Shields were the oldest form of protection and used to block injury from weapons. They could also be used as a bludgeoning weapon. The shield could also display symbols as a form of recognition, especially necessary for the medieval knights on the battlefield and in tournaments. Over time the shield became smaller, eventually disappearing as it became unnecessary.

Review of: Wooden Viking Spiral Shield

Very robust shield with some serious heft to it. If you are buying this as a wall hanger you need to find a stud. Handle is securely attached to the shield, paint is very shiny. Nice done.

Review of: Swordsman Buckler

I don't like the acid bath and antiqued finish. It's unnatural looking. My buckler looks like it was stucco textured. I think it would have been nicer just wire brushed.  On to the better things of this buckler. Good size and weight . The boss provides plenty of room for your fist. The 8 rays provide good glancing/guiding surfaces like fluted gothic armor. The reinforced edge is great. The wooden slabs on the steel handle make for a comfortable and solid grip and allow for some of the old manuals vicious moves like the flip and edge punch. I like it except for the stucco finish but nice buckler all in all.

Review of: Swordsman Buckler

Great Buckler. I have been studying sword and buckler manuals and wanted to acquire a usable buckler for practice. This buckler feels good in the hand is just the right size. It is well made and looks good on display when not in actual use. Again, MR you have delivered.

Review of: Fleur-de-lis Shield

Fantastic addition to my home office! I've worked from home for the past 10 years an the pandemic encouraged me to finally customize my home office. While I'm front and center of all of my Zoom meetings, my Fleur-de-lis shield is in the background and serves nicely as an icebreaker and conversation piece. Great addition and serves two purposes!

Review of: Wooden Viking Dragon Shield

This shield is Fantastic, it is the perfect weight and is very well made. However to be historically accurate the shield would have been warped with rawhide, or leather. This shield is much more detailed than the others, and you can tell it is hand painted.

Review of: Scottish Battle Targe Shield

I have had this piece for about a year, but it wasn't until last month that I wore it to the local Scottish Fair. I got many compliments on the targe, but everyone was even more impressed when I showed them the spike on the center boss!. (I wasn't allowed to have the spike attached as I walked around, but could "demonstrate" it when in a group.)
The look is not too ornate, but simple and handsome as if owned by a trusted clan warrior rather than Laird or Chieftain. Seeing several targes in museums, this is as authentic as it gets. I wore it with my back-sword and dirk, and was well kitted to be sure!
Great piece at a a good price!
