Renaissance Weapons

Renaissance weapons were not very different from medieval weaponsSwords and daggers were still widely used, even if they were more evolved than the war tools of the Dark Ages. Newer weapons that were to play a major role in later human history were entering the scene, such as firearms but they were not yet reliable. Cut and thrust swords were prominent in battles during the early Renaissance and giant two-handed swords like the Zweihander also saw action. Further, the rapier was fashionable among the civilians if not the military as a duelling weapon and status symbol.

Other weapons included the one-handed war axe and the two-handed battle axe, which were popular with the Celtic warriors. War hammers and maces were also favored. Another much-appreciated weapon was the pike, a long and narrow thrusting spear that could be up to 25 feet long. Then there was the dagger, such as the Continental main-gauche (off-handed dagger) which was a rage in England in the 16th century. Museum Replicas carries a fantastic range of these Renaissance weapons, including an array of daggers, stilettos, main gauches, war hammers, and maces. Each product in the selection is fashioned by the best craftsmen in the industry and contains excellent detail. They are perfect for the weapon collector or re-enactor.

Review of: Musketeer Main Gauche

This is a truly phenomenal main gauche. Sturdily constructed, it serves as the ultimate off-hand parrying, trapping, binding and smacking weapon. Everything about this main gauche, form the thick ricasso to the excellently tempered diamond cross section blade, to the extra large quillons, to the ridged patterns for trapping blades and especially the phenomenal knuckle guard with it's fantastic detailing is just a cut above what one would expect for such a low price. A must-have in any collection and a trusty sidearm that will quickly become a practicing swordsman's favorite.

Review of: 16th Century Italian Mace

I'm very happy with this mace. Fit and finish are good, and the flanges are all nice and clean. There are a couple of very minor imperfections which are not an issue to me, especially for the price. I can't comment on the durability.

I like the long grip section which allows either a one or two-handed grip. There is a hole at the bottom as well for adding a loop of cord or leather.

I've wanted one of MR's maces for a very long time, so it feels great to finally have this one.

A very beautiful stiletto! Flawless execution on this one. It even stays in the sheath without slipping out. If you like this style get it!

Review of: The Raven Rondel Dagger

The Cold Steel Raven rondel dagger is a perfect example of a weapon designed purely for thrusting:  the strong, triangular-cross-section blade has no edges -- only a point that can surely pierce fabric, leather, or mail, and very likely plate of field-harness thickness.  It is a thrusting weapon pure and simple; additionally, since it has no edge to dull, it could readily be used as a parrying weapon.  Handsome and functional -- what more needs be said?

Review of: Late Period War Hammer

I purchased this as a deal of the day.  Great price...fast delivery.  It came well packed and in very good condition.  Some have complained of imperfections.  Mine was in very good condition although the cord wound handle did look somewhat dirty...I'm assuming from the handling of it by the packer who probably had oil on his hands from the hammer itself.....yes....it is well oiled so be careful.
As far as a weapon....this would be formidable.  A good weight that could cause serious damage and a spiked end that would easily penetrate metal.  It adds nicely to my collection of various items from MR.  I've had great service and experience with MR.
Will definitely order again.

Review of: Venetian Stiletto

This is just beautiful.  I love the guard and pummel.   The handle with the twisted wood is what drew me to it initially.  Long sharp point makes this truly an assassins weapon.

My only con is the scabbard.  I wish Windlass would provide the option to purchase a better one that fits and matches the weapons aesthetics.
