Renaissance Hunting Sword

#501209
$195.00

Cut and Thrust Swords that were used for the hunt were much like those used in war. They were used for dispatching large game, like boar and deer, as well as providing some protection from the unemployed mercenaries that roved across the countryside of Europe and had turned to robbery. Nicely shaped steel parts compliment an effective blade. Lower section of the grip is wood covered with black leather. Leather and steel scabbard is included. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts®. Can be sharpened for an additional fee.

The blade got lose while using, but the nut is easy to re-tighten. That also allowed me to remove the hilt and check the construction. The tang is fairly beefy, have not been able to bend it.

I am delighted with the construction of the sword. It is of solid construction and quite handsome. Blade is flexible but not overly so. I have not sharpened it yet but it is obviously designed for serious use and not stage combat theatrics.

OK as a half-price DOTD, looks good in the scabbard but not substantial enough for close inspection or regular stage combat; fittings are obviously formed, not forged. Even the "unsharpened" version is quite sharp and would need dulling.

Battle Axe

The axe is almost as old an implement as the club. Metal axe heads were among the first handiworks created during the Copper Age. With all this history it is easy to see why a Medieval warrior would choose a good axe for battle. This axe, circa 1100, has a back spike to add to its effectiveness as a weapon of war. The steel head is pinned to a hardwood shaft that is curved at the end on this one hand axe. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts®.
