I received this shirasaya as a gift after many years of sword collecting. I wasn't sure what to expect since there was very little available information about the manufacturer but I was very pleasantly surprised.
The blade is sharpened high carbon steel with fuller and differential hardening. As far as katanas go this is a thicker, heavier example but by no means is it unwieldy. The grip and scabbard are deeply laquered and highly polished.
As a display piece it is a lovely addition. If you intend to train with it, use caution. The grip is so smooth that it could very easily slide out of your hands. If you want to use this sword, I recommend that you replace the grip with the more traditional battle ready fittings. Remember that the mountings of a shirasaya were not intended for combat, but for storing or transporting a blade.
Whatever your intent, this is a fine sword in the Japanese style and a great value for the money.
