The Grosse Messer is certainly a unique sword as not too many manufacturers bother to make this type of weapon. The Cold Steel version is overall disappointing however. I am not a fan of the black coating on the Man at Arms version, I much prefer their other version that was available, but it does protect the blade from rust, so it is viable. The weight is a good bit on the heavy side so it will tire you out quickly. It is not balanced very well at all. The blade holds up to abusive testing but mine actually broke at the base of the pommel. The pommel is screwed on and epoxied, so It should be sturdy, but mine actually broke at the base along the tang. The scabbard might actually be the best part of the sword, being wood covered in leather and solidly constructed. Overall I wouldn't recommend it, but there are not too many choices if you are looking for this type of sword at an affordable price.
