Balanced, handy, capable
This is a very active, well-balanced and handy sword and a deadly addition to an expanding arsenal.  The hilt is solid and the construction seems to be peened.  I am also impressed by the small gap between the blade and the guard - a place where other manufacturers tend to cheap out.  The blade is shaped very well, and the polish is pretty good - it gives an only-slightly distorted reflection.  The fuller wanders slightly on my example, but for the price I have zero complaints.

Also, mine came extremely sharp (I opted for the sharpening).

Love this sword! Great balance and well put together. All the components are flawless. MRL needs to put out more blades like this. Well done!

Excellent 5 easy stars
I bought the European sword during a sale and saved $30, but knowing now I would buy it regular price no question. Now I haven't seen this sword offered on
K"!? Of A#>?!  which leads me to beleive that stock is truly low. So if you can get your paws on one here grab it! Grab 2! Now the sword is rather plain, no two ways about it, but easily customizable. I put a faux gemstone on each side of the pommel, ACES! It has a one-handed grip, and I do mean ONE handed. The grip is wrapped in "ribbed black leather", Best way I know to describe it. The blade is quite long for a 1-hander, and quite stiff. While still being an excellent cutter. The edge also comes quite sharp, you really don't need to touch it up, but being a perfectionist I touched it up with a light ceramic rod and it is screaming sharp, with a hell of a point standard. I can't recommend this simple 1-H cut/thrust sword enough. You WILL NOT BE DISSAPOINTED 👍

Eric
I was surprised at the light weight and balance of this  sword.  I expected to have to change the blade profile to get it to not be a crowbar, but it is very wieldy.  I have yet to bash anything with it, but it seems to have solid construction.  It is a bit long for my stubby little arms but still balanced well.

Solid sword
I've been wanting the European Sword to display beside the Classic Medieval Sword, and the recent price drop pretty much sealed the deal.

This is one of the finest swords I've seen anywhere. Fit and finish are amazingly good.
Yes, the scabbard is mediocre. But at this price point, the scabbard must be considered as a free gift - and it's foolish to complain about what is essentially a gift.

The gap between the guard and blade is very small, the pommel and all the hilt assembly is very straight and symmetrical. The handle is well-stitched, and will give many years of service.

The blade is very straight, with few hammer marks (very faint at that) and an excellent polish.

Personally, I DO NOT WANT a "perfect" blade; swords should be forged and hammered, NOT produced on a CNC computer-run machine.
To me, a CNC sword is not really a sword.

At first, I thought the sword had a screw-on (threaded) pommel, because I did not see the peen. Upon closer examination, the peen was there, but it was so well done and so finely polished, it's nearly invisible. This is by far the smoothest peen I've ever seen on any sword.

Windlass quality continues to increase each year. The quality of this sword matches or exceeds swords costing three times as much. I feel that those still denigrating Windlass swords are simply upset that their much more expensive swords are not as good, and they're not happy about it.

I hope Windlass continues to produce swords of this quality.

Nice
The sword has no blemishes at all.  Everything is nice and tight.  I used the sharpening service and I am impressed.  This is my first sword and for entry level and how good this is; I'll be back for more.

Holy lord
This sword is amaizing, a bit heavy, but amazing. No defect on the guard, on the pommel, nothing, even the scabbard fit perfectly. What do you want more ?

For the price you will have a hard time finding a better sword!  I love the simple look and it just feels right in the hand.  My only complaint is that the pommel was peened crooked, however it doesn't affect function.

MR shipped very promptly. I chose the sword sharpened. Although that gave it a secondary bevel, it looks nice and feels sharp. Overall the sword is just beautiful. A perfect satin finish makes the blade irresistible to look at. The design is simple, elemental, and classical. The weight and balance feel almost spot on to me, though if I had to complain, I would say it is minutely blade heavy. The ricasso was left unsharpened, however, which allows for an alternative grip further up the sword. The sword came heavily oiled from top to bottom. A tad unappealing at first, but I ultimately appreciate the protection. I have done very little cutting so far, but it seemed to handle it easily. Moreover, the guard feels very solidly attached. The gap between the cross guard and the blade is refreshingly slim, and filled with what appears to be epoxy. The pommel is solid and nicely peened to the tang. I've seen smoother peens I guess, but I am very pleased with this one. When I look down the blade at a shallow angle I can see the gently waving imperfections that confess the sword's hand forged origins. I just love that look. With each gentle mark the blade subtly and beautifully narrates the story of each hammer blow in it's creation. No stock removal blade gives me the same feeling. The scabbard ends up being my only major complaint. It's not terrible. It looks nice, it matches, and it fits more snugly than I expected. Though I can already feel it getting looser. Yes it is a tad flimsy feeling. But, the real problem I have with it is the amount of residue it leaves on the blade. Every time I draw the sword, it comes out spattered and streaked by some white-ish mystery material. Oh how I wish it came out clean. Overall I debated with myself at length about whether or not to give this weapon 5 stars. Ultimately, despite the fact that I feel like I easily got more than my money's worth, I feel like I must reserve a perfect score for a near-perfect sword. If they could make the quality of the scabbard match that of the sword, they would have a truly mythic package for this price.

A beautiful, solid piece of equipment, and well worth the price.

I received this sword sooner than expected and securely packaged. It was expertly sharpened and I tested it by opening a letter with it, as well as   my finger because I forgot that I was dealing with a REAL sharpened blade, not one of my step-fathers kitchen knives (he refuses to use anything but scalloped edge knives because "sharp knives scare me to death!"). The sheath holds the sword quite securely by the top 2,3 inches of the blade and keeps the sharp edges from cutting the sides of the scabbard. As is quite obvious, my knowledge of swords is quite rudimentary. It feels comfortable and well balanced when I'm swinging it around (outside with plenty of free space). I am not a small statured man, so I don't find it heavy at all. Over all, I think it is a good sword for a greenie like me to start out on. The only reason I don't give it a 5 star is because it doesn't sharpen itself!

Beautifully balanced, with the perfect amount of flex so not too whippy! Sword handles amazingly and the fittings on mine are perfectly aligned, with no rattles to speak of. First head about this sword through the SBG review and have had my eye on it for a while. One thing I noticed though, is that the fuller on mine is almost twice as wide as any other Windlass European swords I have seen, which in my opinion makes the blade super attractive, and much more aesthetically pleasing for my personal taste. My one gripe is that the fuller ground on one side of the blade veers off on a haphazard angle for about 3 inches near the tip-end which really detracts from what would otherwise be a great finish for the price. Because of this flaw, I should only give four stars in review of the particular blade I received. It still performs flawlessly though, and I am sure MRL would swap for a new sword if it's owner was overly affected by any major errors in the product's finish - therefore I will award it the 5-star rating it deserves.

It is exactly what it is advertised to be. An excellent basic functional sword that cannot be beat at its original price point and a steal in closeout.  Well crafted simplicity at its best. The second I have owned and not much changed from the first I bought over 15 years ago.  Why they would discontinue such a time-tested sword is beyond me...but all things I suppose must come to an end.  Unfortunately, I received this one damaged due to some very negligent shipping but I can't express enough how helpful the customer service is at Museum Replicas. A shipping label was immediately sent to me and upon their receiving the original, even though I was informed it could be a 6 week wait due to the closeout, a replacement was found and shipped out (express) on the same day. A solid and very trustworthy company that I look forward to dealing with again in the future.

Looks, I was fairly pleased, as with the weight. However the balance is really tip heavy. When I examined the blade closely I noticed that the blade's taper is reversed from what it should be. The tip is thicker than the base. Despite this the weight still makes it fairly easy to move around but it does tire you quickly.
