Pillow Sword

#501234
$74.95

Although somewhat rare, this type of sword was known to have existed.  We have put it with the rapiers for lack of a more proper category, as they were used for thrusting rather than slashing and cutting.  Pillow swords consisted of a rapier or sword rapier sized blade that was mounted with small, almost dagger sized guards and pommels and smaller rapier grips.  These were hung on the wall by the headboard or simply leaned against the bed post.  If attacked by an intruder at night, the sword could be brought in to play in a thrusting action, there being no room to swing a large sword in the low ceiling bedrooms of the period. Parts are steel, grip is twisted steel wire over wood.  High carbon tempered steel fullered blade.  Comes with leather scabbard with steel furniture. Overall: 39"Blade: 32" long, 1" wide, 3/16" thickWt: 2 lbs
