Accurate point of balance
A sword with a lot of heft to it compared to comparable french or british spadroons of the period and prior.  The balance seems to be historical, with the POB situated about 4cm past the guard -- unlike most spadroons.  The blade has a nice ricasso, and it also has a good amount of flex but is still bolstered by the stiff spine of a single-edged sword.

Happy customer
I was very pleased with this sword and scabbard. I bought my first sword from another company for nearly the same amount as this and was dissappointed. I should have come here first. Everything about this is quality and the blade came very well sharpened. I'll have to buy from here again sometime.

Excellent, Simple, Functional, Period Correct, Excellent Period Sword
Excellent, Simple, Functional, Period Correct Definitely in my top 3 Windlass swords! With the “Accolade”and “European Sword”. I am VERY pleased with all of my “Period Sabres” from Windlass/ACC, especially their Civil War pieces. The “Union Staff and Field Officer” being the Sabre I want next, when money permits. DON’T BE FOOLED, this is NOT a dress sword. It is solid, grippy, attractive, and functional! However it could, and I’m sure was used for dress and parade. If you want to add a little more authenticity to this sword, ask MRL to give it a “Service Sharpening”. This is where the small area on the back of the blade past the fuller is sharpened, and only half of the front edge is sharpened. The business half of course. This was a very common sharpening method back then, and was considered “Gentlemanly”. BUT, I’m not sure if MRL will do a service sharpening. I would call them first. The brass handle is excellent, and grippy. A wire wrap has basically been carved into the handle, providing an excellent purchase on the sword. High quality steel scabbard, with steel rings for hanging on your belt. Which I have done on a few special evenings and occasions, received quite a few compliments AND looks from the Ladies 👍. All in all this is an excellent sword. A+ in my book, especially for the price.

A Faithful Reproduction
The sword I received is a good, faithful replica of the M1840 NCO swords.  It arrived well packed and very sharp. It is probably better quality than many of the original swords as manufacturing quality suffered during the Civil War. It is historically correct and (as far as I can tell) compliant with current Army regulation.

There are some very minor casting defects in the handle and small imperfections on the scabbard that are can be buffed away. You would have to be within 10 cm to really notice them.

Overall, I am very happy with the sword.

Very good.  the hilt appears to be peened and is solid. the fitting of the blade into the guard is tight; the hole isn't over-sized so there should be no issues with shifting around.

This is a fine reproduction, and completely functional. The blade is stiff, well tempered and beautifully finished. I had mine sharpened and it was honed perfectly to a near razor sharpness with no visible secondary edge.
A remarkable reproduction!
