OVERVIEW

Circa 1350

The proliferation of plate armor across Medieval Europe was shadowed by the development of crushing weapons like this war hammer. Since swords were virtually useless against plate armor, mounted knights used short hammers, axes and maces to defeat an opponent's improved protection. This beautiful, impressive weapon is replicated from an example in the German National Museum in Nuremberg. Steel head is secured to the hardwood shaft with steel langets. Brass tacks provide a more secure grip. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts.

Robust hammer
I like the heft and construction.  It arrived with some surface rust, but it was easily removed.  Great price on sale.  It feels like you could really use it without worry.

Geology tool?
I took this outside to smash up some crystal geodes down by a creek near my place.  It worked out great!

This could take out a brick wall
This war hammer is a beast. Shockingly light, well designed and constructed. You can easily tell why these weapons were so popular for so long. Holding one in your hand it is obvious that you could bust through the wall of your house without much effort, let alone what would happen if you struck a human..... The construction and materials are historically accurate, the fit and finish is tight, and the basic (unfinished) wood and steel are just screaming for some customization projects. This is an excellent value and several of my friends have purchased one for home defense. You'll see why if you hold one.

The War Hammer!
Okay ~ I'll be totally blunt. I bought this war hammer as an extra little gift for my husband. We were really impressed with it. The craftsmanship and balance are fantastic. We have a lot of dogs and have a lot of big old beef joint bones laying around. The hubs decided to give the War Hammer a try. We went outside with a really solid chunk of bone (about the size a a grapefruit). He hit it with the war hammer...not even all that hard. The bone  shattered into shards!
So, our mighty war hammer has been moved to a special place in the house for potential protection, if necessary. All I can say is WOW! Everyone who's played around with it LOVES IT!

Very nice hammer. Shorter than some but very sturdy. If the handle is too rectangular, you can wrap a thick dowel with course sandpaper and sand the corners down to make a more oval shape.

This is my first war hammer and I couldn't be happier with it. It feels very solid in the hand, has a simple yet elegant design, and you can't beat the price.

Very simple hammer, but very effective. Crushed a helm without much effort. Very nice piece.

Great little war hammer. My only aversion is to the grip portion of the handle, which is a bit wide and uncomfortable. However, I would take this into battle in an instant. The claw like hammer is perfect for maximizing impact pressure points and the spike is nicely crafted to pierce armor, skulls, or anything else you might decide to use it on.

I got this for my husband for Christmas. He LOVES it! We beat up a really durable box like I was cutting through butter. Today he picked up one of the large beef knuckle bones that we got for the dogs and brought it outside to see how the war hammer would work on it. Completely blown to bits with one hit! This was unbelievable! Too much fun! And amazingly powerful.

Looked like a bargain @ the price.

Wrong.  Worth much more.  Light as a feather but immensely potent.  Handles like a dream.  Completely destroyed an old galvo garbage can.  Not only did the spike punch through the steel effortlessly & was easily removed due to the sensible orientation of its decorative grooving but also the high-relief hammer face seemed to grip the metal even on hard strikes, allowing tearing of the seams apart.  No hint of head loosening with wild & crazy use, & while the wood (which looks like oak) has some attractive but unnerving burl, all the burl areas are protected by the langets.

An active, intelligent & curious grandson has necessitated the retirement of the front-door pistol to a less accessible location, but I won't feel too disadvantaged with this critter leaning against the wall.
