OVERVIEW

Popular in the Confederacy during the Civil War for its all-purpose capabilities, the D-Guard Bowie chopped branches, split logs, sliced saplings, and even had its way with a Yankee or two. Re-enactors use it to dig cannon emplacements! The steel guard can withstand punishment and the massive, high carbon steel blade holds an edge well. A soldier on the move soon learns to travel light, so a handmade Bowie was often treasured as a backup weapon when the entire cavalry was "under the guns." Grip is contoured wood with a light stain. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts. Includes leather sheath with metal furniture. Arrives sharpened from the factory.

Amazing blade
Beautiful blade, sharp and straight.  Strong pirate vibe with this blade.

Knife or sword?
This bowie cannot quite decide whether it wants to be a knife or a sword. It can be swung in flow drills as a sword. As such it is light and maneuverable. Blade and guard are not quite perfectly aligned, but not off by enough to affect usage (handle is perfectly aligned with the blade, so can be used for indexing).  I am pleased with the purchase.

Excellent budget small cutlass
This toes the line between long knife and short sword, but regardless of the classification, it's an extremely good deal for those looking to get into the hobby without breaking the bank.

Well-made, affordable blade.
My knife came well oiled, wrapped, and packaged. It did not appear to sustain any damage during shipment. The hilt appears to be well made, the peen is not completely smoothed out but I count that as minor as long as the peen is strong. The blade is even and the sharpened edge also appears even and consistent. It is not shaving sharp. The chape of the scabbard does not drag on the blade. The leather on the scabbard is tight and pressed. My *only* complaint is that the knife will loose itself from the scabbard if inverted and a small shake sees the blade come out completely. I don't think this is a huge issue if worn properly. Well done! I am very happy so far with my purchase. Even though this is not a "proper" sword, it is one of the best deals for a quality bladed weapon in my opinion. I would purchase this again or as a gift.

I absolutely love it.
From the moment I first touched this sword, I loved it.
I first heard about this sword from a review by Skallagrim. His review convinced me to get one myself. His review is certainly going to be better than mine, so his is here: https://youtu.be/d_l8YSTtzd4  but my observations are as follows:
It's a short sword  in the general shape of an enlarged Bowie Knife, except with a simple fingerbow. You can actually see where the tang meets the D-Guard and it is solid.
It is balanced for cut-and-thrust action.
The wood on the hilt feels great; it's smooth and doesn't have anything that irritates my skin. Any concern about it sliding out of my hand is dispelled by the D-Guard as my hand will catch on that (actually happened when I was practicing strikes with it).
I can't recommend it enough.

Rock solid
Rock solid -- more of a small saber than a bowie knife, but I'm certainly not complaining :)

Very useful tool as per advertised. If it is ordered via the Atlanta Cultlery website instead of Museum Replica website you can select the option of adding your initials on the blade as well as sharpening option.
