I put off making this purchase too long
For several years I have been looking at this knife, looking for reviews and finding very little outside this website to tell me what I wanted to know.  The pictures made me question its point of balance and some other factors.  It looks like it might be unwieldy.

Well, one day I got a bonus at work and decided to pull the trigger. Within seconds of opening the package, I knew I made a mistake waiting so long.  This knife is... well it's hard to put down.  I love it, and it's my new favorite "impractical" knife.

The design is very light but feels capable in the hand.

Philosphy of Use -

Fighting knife, decorative knife, Ceremonial knife, Cosplay knife.

Not a good choice for bushcraft.

As a fighting knife, I would not likely put this at the top of my list for any kind of duel, but in a pinch, this would do the job, it's got good point control, and would excel in the thrust but still be decent at cutting. the slick grip would be a problem and the lack of any kind of real hand protection means there is more risk than needed.  Even a rudimentary stub guard would have been good.  Especially considering the slickness of the grip.

Pros:

1:  Aesthetically this knife is tops.  It reminds me of something a Dark Elf would use.  For anyone like me who practices magick, this blade is an ideal ceremonial blade for rituals. It FEELs evil and powerful.
2:  It is light and balanced to allow you to favor the point (thrust) or cut by moving your hand down to the pommel.
3:  Its length is formidable, giving great reach, and it is very fast.
4:  The point is fairly fine due to the more modest thickness of this blade. It will penetrate padding easily.
5:  It just feels good in the hands. And begs to be paired with a twin.
6:  Dat sheath is really nice looking!
7:  Normally I DESPISE black coatings on any blade.  This is one of the few blades I've ever seen where it actually compliments it perfectly, and so long as it lasts, it will give the blade an elegant Ebony sheen that fits the dark evil aesthetic.

Cons:

1:  DAT SHEATH is utterly useless for carrying this knife.  The problem is there is absolutely NO retention system at all whatsoever to hold the blade in the sheath.  This makes the whole thing dangerous in the extreme to carry without some kind of heavy modification or replacement.
2:  No sign of how the blade is held into the tang, it feels solid, but is it truly full tang?  It doesn't look peened in either, is it friction fit and glued? I believe from preliminary tests that this would hold up for fighting or most cutting tests, but if you are a safety-conscious person, maybe skip this one. Windlass products are very durable however so I am comfortable risking it.
3:  The handle is a bit short. when you hold it where the blade is designed to be held (in the middle of the grip), it feels a bit on the awkward side.  If you slide your hand so that the hand is gripping around the swell of the handle it feels ideal in terms of balance.  If they had extended the grip even just one inch forward or added an ounce or two to the pomel the balance would ideal for point control and still usable for cutting. Considering how light this blade is overall, an ounce or two would not have negatively influenced this knife at all.
4:  No guard, All things considered, this blade should have had at least a rudimentary guard, though then I wouldn't be able to slide my hand forward to establish a better grip and balance.
5:  The grip is slick in the hands - The metal is textured and feels pretty good, but a little blood or oil on your hands and this thing will be a dumbfire torpedo sailing away to stick in something tragic.

Overall the whole package is a great value and worth your time and I rate it at 4 stars.  I may even ask for another for the holidays so it has a twin.

The blade itself is closer to five stars, even with my complaints about the grip, this can be remedied mostly by changing my grip a bit to a handshake or saber grip and choking up every so slightly.

The sheath is the real let down, it really needs either some kind of retention strap (ugly) or some kind of way to friction fit the blade to the sheath so it stays put with normal use.

Buy this knife if:

You like how it looks and don't plan to abuse it, but don't want some cheap flimsy stainless trash either but want a real knife.  If you want it for some kind of cosplay etc.  (probably get it dull then and don't get the sharpening service). OR want it for ceremonial purposes.

Don't buy this knife if:

You want to use it for heavy bushcraft (light work would be fine like cutting cordage, and feather sticks etc, but keep batoning to small sticks under 1.5 inches diameter).

A very, very stylish knife. The finish and sharpening was great and is very balanced.

Little story
I bought a pair of these a few years back. One of them was absolutely perfect, the other, less so. It had portions of the blackening missing from the handle as well as a hole in the handle. I contacted MR about it, and less than two weeks later, they had everything taken care of (kudos to the customer service team). One of the sheaths was a little loose on the blade, but that’s a vise is for. Both blades are wonderfully balanced. The handles feel odd at first, but with some time you get how they’re supposed to fit in the hand. Only real complaint is about the sharpening. The false edge on the spine is left unsharpened, understandably so, but putting the edge on there as I have, makes the blades just that much more wicked.

Great knife, buy two, and learn to use a vise. lol

I have had this knife for several years. When I originally bought it the metal tip of the sheath was loose. I used a little GORILLA glue to fix that.
The knife itself was all right and still is. On Samhain (Halloween) I wear it with my pagan ritual robes and the Dark Helmet (sold by Museum Replicas) to give candy to the trick or treaters who come to the door.

First off. I LOVE the blade.  The balance, edge, and general feel of the blade is all around awesome.  The big let down on the weapon is the sheath.  When I unwrapped it, top metal piece fell off (this I superglued back on, hope it holds), worse yet, the sheathe is not tight enough to hold the blade in.  If the blade is not positioned in an upright manner, then the blade falls right out, this obiously makes it hard to wear, especially as I intended to wear it in a reverse upsidedown position.  Otherwise, perfect.

The blade is great. Good lines. Made by windlass, hoping it is good metal even though made in India. Handle looks cool, made out of plastic, small even for my dinky hands.
Overall beautiful knife, the score gets a ding for the questionable metal and handle ergonomics. Will wrap the handle in leather and be completely satisfied.

Dear Erik F,
We are so sorry to hear about your unsatisfactory sheath! While highly unfortunate we are only human and sometimes things slip through the cracks. We would however, like to remind you that we can do a return or replacement on the item/sheath. We apologize and hope you have better experiences in the future!
- Museum Replicas Team, July 10, 2015
This rating is for the sheath, not the knife, which I rate as 5-star. The Knife is perfect. The sheath is very poorly made with the metal work not fitting the leather at all. The metal tip came off as I unwrapped the knife! That tip had not been glued on at all! There was no plastic grip insert to hold the knife in the sheath. Quality control is nonexistent!

I'm not really sure what anyone here in these bad reviews were talking about. The pointy ends on the sheath are not that sharp at all. I ordered my knife sharpened, it came that way. Packaging was superb because it was wrapped in bubblewrap. I even got a free item with it, a pocket knife! It shipped the same day I ordered it. The blade itself is fantastic, black with a metal handle. I've got it hanging up right now and it looks amazing! Great job on this one!

bought this item on weekend deal, and really was not expecting much, but was pleased with the knife, it has a great look and was better made then I thought. balance is good, an the sheath looked great.

Does the deal of the day mean that that is the time to get rid of substandard products?  I was excited to see this knife on sale and I ordered it on the way home in the car. I asked the AC rep if I needed to pay more to have it sharpened and she said it was already sharp.  What came was not sharp and the blade was loose from the handle.  Also the knife did not fit well with the sheath (very loose).  One of the few times I've been disappointed with AC/MR.

This knife is one of the few pieces in my family's collection that everyone wants a copy (or two) of. The knife itself is well balanced, beautiful and functional. The only thing holding me back from giving a five star rating is the sheath, which is loose and allows the blade to slip out.

I love the looks and design of this knife blade. I am not crazy about the cast handle but can deal with it.  The scabbard, however, is absolutely useless! It looks flashy but the blade is not secured in the scabbard. It rattles around and will fall out if tipped. I had to make a sheath in order to carry the knife.
- Michael, September 24, 2014 | Verified Purchase
This is a fantastic knife, well worth the price to buy and sharpen it.  I will definately be buying a second one in the future.  The metal parts on the scabbard do seem to come off easily but nothing a touch of glue won't fix and definately not something I feel should drop the rating on this great knife.
- Wesley, October 31, 2012
Just got my Raven Claw in the mail.  I am very pleased.  The knife overall is much blacker than the picture can show.  It is a very dangerous looking thing.  It will make a beautiful addition to my collection.
