One of the earliest uses of metal protection was chain mail armor.  Made up of tens of thousands of interlocking rings, it was woven by hand and formed into protective shirts, coifs and even leggings. Chain mail, or more properly "mail", dates back to antiquity; the name itself is derived from the Latin "macula" meaning "mesh of net." It is believed to have been invented by the Celts and adopted by the Romans after their warring with them. The use of mail continued until the presence of gunpowder increased in the 16th century.

Review of: Blackened Mail Armor Shirt

I love this mail. I have wanted a chain mail  shirt since i was a teenager. When i finally got it i was not disappointing. Bear in mind, if you have never wore a chain shirt, it is not easy on easy off.  20 plus pounds, so now i truly understand the need for a squire. the sleeves are very long as well. Im about 5'10, 5'11 and i can tuck the mail under my bracers. Also it comes with heavy amount of grease on it, so before driving to your cosplay even or renfair, put down a towel or get some good degreaser  for it or you will have a pretty permanent mess on your hands. The price is very low considering the quality. Don't buy other chain mail. Buy Windlass. It delivers.

Review of: Riveted Dark Aluminum Mail Armor Coif

Best costume coif I've ever seen! Light, sturdy and a great color. The aluminum is sealed in a way that even seems like it will prevent snags, etc., in additional to minimizing oxidation.  Highly recommended... in honesty, I wish I could afford the full hauberk! All aluminum chain mail should be made this way.

Review of: Blackened Mail Armor Shirt

This is an absolute must for any armour: Chainmail. The black chainmail is a nice unique version to your armour. This version has a big impact to those who see it on you. It also gives a nice contrast to any armour plate you wear on top of it. Wearing chainmail for the first time,is also interesting. The weight is 23 pounds added to your own. You can feel it in the feet. It also "stretches" in the chest, very odd at first. Museum Replicas did a very good job creating this armour. Most of the links where well butted together. I waited about six months for the chainmail to arrive. It was worth the wait. Remember: they make these by hand in India. It took me a month to make a 9x9 square of chainmail. Thier hard work is worth your wait. I love this armour. Get one, it's all worth it.

Got this as a Deal of the Day. Absolutely love it! I'm 6'3" and 270 lbs and it fits great. Only thing worth mentioning is the sleeves aren't elbow length, but all the way to the wrists. High quality mail shirt!

This is an excellent piece of armor. My only complaint is that, like Gimli, I find it a little tight across the chest.

Good, tough mail!  I love my chain mail.  My only wish is that it had longer sleeves.
