OVERVIEW

Circa 1400

Despite having several names - War Sword, Great Sword, Long Sword and even Two-Hand Sword (thus causing some confusion among collectors) - the large sword was quite a popular weapon. This sword has great length giving it both reach and power. As the length increased the velocity increased substantially. However, with the addition of the long ricasso, the sword became even more formidable. The ricasso allowed the sword to be gripped past the guard, thus shortening the sword and allowing it to be used as short spear. This made a thrust more solid since the blade is held securely at two separate points.

Our version of this sword is as formidable weapon as the originals. The Sword of Roven has a high carbon steel blade tempered to a tough spring, the grip is ridged wood wrapped with leather, and the pommel and guard are steel. Comes complete with leather scabbard. This is an interesting sword type that belongs in all collections of swords. Scabbard included.

A nice replica; a nice sword; nicely made; correctly configured; reveals the essence of this type of weapon and why they were useful. It is fast and able to deliver a very heavy blow, yet quite favorably disposed to quick recovery. Joe B

This sword is the absolute pride and joy of my collection. Not only is it beautiful, well balanced, and finely tempered, it is quite simply an inspiring weapon to behold.

I recieved my sword this afternoon, and upon unpacking it I found a beautifully made work of craftsmanship. After carefully unwrapping it and giving it a skight buff with a polishing cloth, I held in my hand, a well balanced and swift two handed sword. Being a bit of a metal smith myself I take my hat off to the fine bladesmiths of Windlass Steelcrafts, and say job well done!

One of my favorite swords.  This sword genius is in its simplicity.  Its beautiful and handles so well.  Don't be fooled by its simple looks.  You will love it. Also, there is no whippiness.  Highly recommended.

The blade seems nice, but I'm not a huge fan of what they used for the handle... I've not had the sword a week, and it's already kind of peeling.

I picked this up on a deal of the day and it was a "steel!" The pommel has a clean peen, the blade a fine distal taper. My favorite features are the ricasso and fullers. It is simplistic yet elegant. The heat treatment seems well done. The blade has great flexibility without being "whippy." This is one of my favorite swords in my collection and rivals many of my much pricier custom swords. Well done all around.

Overall pretty nice, the handle needs to be redone however. The handling and overall characteristics are nice. Definitely recommended.

Extremely please. After cleaning off the packing grease and waxing the leather parts because packing grease a healthy piece of leather does not make, the sword really just appeared as a true thing of elegance and beauty to me. It has excellent point control, isn't too whippy, seems to have the proper point of percussion although I have not really tested this yet, and is masterfully hand forged. It is also peened very cleanly. Windlass has also improved their scabbards. They no longer slide off.

Museum's customer service is great and their sharpening service is also good but a bit spotty on their angles, although it can very easily be corrected. They certainly do sharpen it in any case. Data point of one; I made a small slice on my finger while cleaning it because I am an idiot. Let it be a reminder to be careful handling these things.

Just received mine today. Well balanced, well sharpened (ordered sharpened), not too whippy, etc, just like all the other reviewers say. This really is a great sword and is worth every penny!

For reference I am rating this sword at the purchase price of $140. This has to be my favorite sword that I own, albeit in my limited collection experience. The scabbard leaves a bit to be desired as well as some residue on the blade but it serves its purpose enough as I usually do not walk around with swords on my waistline :). There are a couple imperfections such as the gap between the cross guard and blade and would be nice to see it tightened up but in absolutely no way does it affect the solid construction. A couple alignments are off but at this point I'm nitpicking so as to give people who hold serious weight to these things some substance. The grip is also a little uncomfortable but I do plan on fixing that. The sharpening job on the sword seemed appropriately done and the three well-defined fullers offers a very elegant profile. I have yet to do any cutting with it but I have no doubt it would stand up to the test. I couldn't be any happier with this sword and plan on having it a long time. Now just to name it...
