Nice Axe
A nice, well balanced throwing axe that just feels right in the hand. The "forged finish" is really just black paint, but it still looks nice and feels like it just wants to be thrown.

The Francesca
Mine came with out an edge on it. Not even close! It had a false ground edge that was so blunt it would show up in pics when you ran a sharpie across the "edge".  But all in all not a bad throwing axe for the price if you have the grinders/sanders and the time to fix it up.

Sturdy enough - fun.
Cool axe.  Sturdy.  Works for splitting light, softwood (even though that's well outside of what this axe would have been historically used for).  Haven't tried it on harder wood.  Would work well for throwing, but might require some reprofiling to make it narrower and lighter.

Overall profile would work for throwing.  This is the weapon for whom the Franks - and therefore France - was named.

Very nice throwing axe
This axe is a very nice offering from Windlass. It is light and very maneuverable. The finish on mine is quite nice, better than the picture here on the website. The price is very reasonable and I definitely recommend it.

Excellent Frankish/Franchesca Fighting
Excellent medium size fighting/throwing axe. I love the old timey blacksmith look they give the axe head, and for the price it just can't be beat. I have one at the moment, am considering ordering 2 more to be more historically accurate. Factoid: The Franks would use the slightly curved handles not only for more accurate throwing, but if they were to miss their target the axe would continue to spin and "bounce" at the Roman masses. Terrifying!! All in all an excellent buy and MRL/ACC sells replacement shafts for cheap.

Disappointing :(
First, the antiqued finish looks nothing like the photos.

What's most aggravating is that this would be an outstanding piece with better workmanship. I ordered two of these and they both have rough vertical grind marks on the back 2/3rds of the axe head, toward the eye. The last third toward the edge are ground horizontally with a much smoother finish. I wish I could include a photo to show how obvious this is.  A shame really.

I'm giving this 2 stars because the design and materials seem good.
