Pirate Swords, Cutlasses & Knives

Pirate swords and cutlasses define the bold buccaneer more than any other weapon. But, what type of blades did pirates use? One was the straight-bladed small sword, which was the perfect thrusting weapon and required some skill to wield. The light spadroon was another that was good for thrust attacks and was also a useful slashing blade. Perhaps the most famous of all pirate weapons is the pirate cutlass. This single-edged, slightly curved or straight sword could hack through ropes, flesh, and bone. In addition, the rapier may have seen action during the initial days of the “Golden Age of Piracy.” Pirate knives included the dagger, which came in handy when fighting in tight spaces or faced with tasks such as cutting sail, rope, or food. Finally, there was the dirk, a smaller version of the dagger, which could also be used as a throwing weapon.

Museum Replicas’ excellent range of pirate swords, cutlasses, and knives are perfect for the re-enactor and the collector. Made with exquisite detail and to last, these weapons would not be out of place in the hazardous seas of the 17th-century. So, whether you are a Captain, First Mate, or Sailing Master, fret not. Our swashbuckling collection offers excellent weapons that even Jack Sparrow would secretly envy. Have doubts about our claim? Check them out now or walk the plank.

Review of: The English Cutlass

This Cutlass is very well made.  Fit and finish was great.  Only problem I had with it at all is the guard/grip is pretty small.  If you have larger hands at all this is not the weapon for you.

Review of: The Corsair Cutlass Barbary Pirate Sword with Leather Scabbard

This blade is a lot of fun. It has a great balance and a nice over all feel. It is well executed except for the pommel notch on mine was slightly off from the guard. Should be an easy fix though. The baldric is a nice addition. I am very happy with my purchase.

Review of: Damascus Sgian Dubh Raider Knife

This is my first edged weapon from MR, so I was very excited considering the quality that I was expecting. I misread the dimensions on this, so this turned out to be much larger than I thought it would be. No complaints on the size though.

1st, the dagger. It essentially looks as it does in the photo. Since this is handmade you know to expect minor differences and I'm not disappointed. It is amazingly light to hold and even though it appears to have been sharpened, the cutting edge is rather dull, not a big deal. Sharpening a knife is rather easy. It does have a razor sharp point and easily pierced many cardboard boxes I have. I haven't tried it on anything thicker yet as I don't want to risk damaging the tip. Based on how sturdy the knife feels, I have no doubt this would pierce clothing and flesh quite well if I was forced to use it for self-defense.

2nd, the sheath. Since this is my first experience with old-world craftsmanship when it comes to medieval styled weapons, I don't have much to compare it to. The knife sits loosely in the sheath and the strap is the only thing that will hold it in place if you decide to walk around with this on your belt. Otherwise I feel this would fall out very easily. The sheath's construction seems decent, but I'm unsure at this point how well I would rate the quality since I haven't had the time to use it on a day-to-day basis.

Overall as a combo I'm giving this five stars.

Love this Short but heavy blade.  Made for chopping.  The feel is great and the look was just what I was looking for. The suede baldric looks and feels much better then what you see in the photos.  Not my first sword from Museum Replicas nor will it be my last.

Review of: Pirate Captain's Hanger Sword

Simple, light & quick. This is a great little short sword. Well assembled. Tight fightings. The aging on the guard/pommel and the scabbard hardware is well applied and does not look cheap. I highly recommend this piece.
