Solid construction and heavy head. The long shaft marks this as a weapon, as does the anti-armor pick on the back-end. The handle is wrapped in thread, which honestly doesn't inspire much confidence but I guess it gives decent traction. The flat end of the hammer is business-like and could be used as a tool if the handle weren't quite as long as it is (which would make it hard to aim properly). There is also a guard, which would combine with gauntlets to provide very good hand-protection.
Overall gives a good sense of what it would have been like to wield one of these weapons in battle.
