OVERVIEW

Circa 1510
This sword is a replica of number A477 from the famed Wallace Collection. Primarily a cutting sword, with a wide blade that has a flattened oval cross section that gives very little resistance in a cutting blow.

A perfect example of a true bastard sword. The proportions of the sword are that of a one handed sword, but with a slightly longer grip and a pommel shape that will allow two hands to be used.

The grip is wood covered in cord and leather. The long quillion has  a decorative finial on the end and the side rings provide good hand protection. Well tempered high carbon steel blade by Windlass Steelcrafts. Scabbard with antiqued parts included.

Note: To be consistent with the original, the antique finish is  hand applied and will vary between swords.

Another great sword!
I can't say that I've bought a more realistic and functional blade or sword. It's solidly constructed, sharp, and the appearance believable for the period.

I also want to heartily thank those who packed this amd other swords I've bought from MR. All of you should set up a business to train other companies' employees to pack well!

I picked this up on the Deal of the Day a couple of years back. I ordered it sharpened, and sharp it IS...VERY SHARP. This is a stout, well built piece. The handling is a little strange at first, but it eventually grows on you. It cuts with a definite feel of authority. As others have said, the antiquing on the guard and pommel will eventually begin to come off, but I think it makes it even more unique-looking. It fits firmly in the scabbard and will not fall out when held upside-down. All in all, a fine sword at a good price. Would buy it again in a heartbeat.

Nice sword. However, the blued finish on the pommel and guard were rubbing off pretty easily with little use. Well made otherwise, just wish the blade was longer as well.

An absolutley beautiful piece.  Well balanced and crafted.  The only thing is that I would have thought it to be just a bit longer of a blade.

A fine addition to my collection. I particularly like the balance and heft. Thanks.

I remember when I first saw this blade on this site many years ago, and when it had been removed for some unknown reason. Upon it's return, I was quite happy to regain the chance to purchase it. As it arrived, I was rather excited only to find out that the item that had been shipped was sub par at best. The scabbard fell apart. Literally. The two metal pieces at the top and tip came off and nearly were lost due to some poor adhesive that had been used to assemble it. The blade itself was alright, but the hilt and pommel's bluing came straight off when using the Windlass & Flitz Knife, Sword & Gun Care Kit provided by this website that even states on it's packaging that it is "safe" for blued steel. On top of that, the pommel's design kept sliding off as the hidden nut at the top of the pommel seemed to be stripped and wouldn't keep a tight grip on the threading that it had been assembled with. The grip itself would slip and rotate, requiring me to tighten the fake peen over and over, or else the blade might have slipped free and caused some possible harm. Over all, this blade was my favorite when I first laid eyes on it. I couldn't wait to have it as my own. Several years later that dream had been destroyed by poor manufacturing, and dishonest product description. Purchase this if you want, and hopefully you'll receive one that has been assembled properly unlike the product I unfortunately was sent.

Seems a bit blade heavy for the length but overall, it has a nice solid feel

Overall a good sword, its solid and it is well made.  I like that MRL has made a sword in this style because it is not often done. I would say its primary flaw is its weight.  It feels somewhat heavy for its size. Recommended overall.
