This version is based on many illustrations and excavated examples. Features include steel guard and pommel with leather covered wood grip and high carbon steel blade. Includes leather covered wood scabbard; this is one of the finest of the ancient world's weapons. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts.

Great little blade!
This blade is exactly what I had hoped it would be. It is well balanced and quick in the hand. Everything is tight and solid.

Good Blade Poor Scabbard
The Sword its self is very satisfactory.  it has the heft and feel of a functional short sword.  I have a friend that collects artifact quality pieces from the mid evil era in Europe.  it compares quite well.  of course all the steal is of much higher quality with the modern version and actually having a grip that has not decayed with age is a real plus. However the scabard it comes with leaves a bit to be desired.  paper thin leather simply glued to the light wood of the scabard?  the brass adornments are nice and add to the look but do little to endear the rest of the construction.  they look and feel like hollow brass thumb pins pushed into the leather and wood.  the raw opening for the sword to enter the scabbard has no protection to keep the leather in place.  a brass cap holding things in place would be both accurate to the era the sword came from and improve the scabbards durability.  since the scabbard is a big part of this purchase (it is what you will see most after all)  I can only give this a three star review.

Well enough, I suppose.
The blade is well made and the steel of good quality my problem is with the grip/ handle. Frankly I am not concerned with the inaccuracy of the styling or synthetic leather my problem is that it is loose! Most of the Windlass blades are well peened (though I would prefer them using a peening block), but this sword has a hidden, hopefully full, tang  with an unknown securing method, the grip moves approximately five degrees when practicing or swinging. As I was planning on using this as a live steel reenactment piece one might see the dilemma. I am a bit disappointed that I had to secure the grip using epoxy and hope that it holds up, this is not my first Windlass sword and I was a bit chagrined at this lack of durability and oversight as the Mediaeval swords I have purchased are more than adequate.

Thank you very much for your review! We do apologize, however, for your issue with the hilt. Although every sword is handmade by master blacksmiths, occasionally slight variations during the fit and finish of the pieces lead to things like that. We always strive to improve our battle ready swords and I will be sure that this review gets addressed in future production.

Great Hoplite Sword
First sword I ever bought from MR. Always wanted a Greek sword of this type and not disappointed. Great quality and good feel in the hand. Sharpening quality very good also.

I just got My New Hoplite Sword Yesterday and it was perfect in EVERY detail, and Razor Sharp. Fantastic Sword! Great Value!

I love this sword! Like the Roman gladius, this one is a jack-of-all-trades weapon. Strong enough to withstand some really heavy blows, and reasonably light to deliver consecutive strikes and thrusts.

The only downside I can say is that the hilt and pommel are not covered by leather, and so they require almost daily oiling to prevent them from rusting, more so than the blade itself. Also, make sure you are wearing gloves while using it, as your hand could end up sliding towards the hilt or pommel, wearing them down.

But nonetheless, this is an excellent weapon for beginners as it has much of the strength of the Viking sword without being bulky, and much of the speed of a Rapier without being fragile

i have had this sword for quite a while an have put it through more then any sword now days has probably been through i have no complaints about it but i would suggest to Windlass Steelcrafts to make their swords that are longer then 30" thicker then 3/16.
