This is the real deal made of mild steel and left in its natural state so it shows some minor wear and light rust as if a prisoner had just turned it in after their sentence was up. Normally secured to a prisoner's leg as punishment for various crimes, the ball and chain was in use in both Britain and the USA as an accepted form of punishment by the early 19th century.  Not only does it make a great historical display, but it's fun for reenactors, theater, even bachelor parties.

Ball Weight: approx. 4 lbs / 12 oz
Chain & Manacle Weight: approx. 1 lb / 4 oz
Chain Length: 31"

Hilarious! I got this for a friends bachelor party, but I didn't think it'd be this cool! It's actually a real steel/iron ball. It's hollow so it wasn't too heavy to lug around,I imagine you could put sand in it if you wanted to weigh it down.
