Adam Hsu Jianm - Fiberglass Handle

Quantity:

Customer Rating: 8 ratings

Designed by world-renowned Chinese martial arts master Sifu Adam Hsu, this Chinese straight sword, or Jian, is becoming the weapon of choice in the Tai Chi community. Functionality, weight and balance are paramount considerations in Sifu Hsu’s designs, while Hanwei’s quality and workmanship give the sword a graceful and pleasing appearance. The blade is crafted in high-carbon spring steel and has a pronounced center ridge and distal taper, producing exactly the right degree of stiffness and a very audible hiss in the cutting stroke. The Ming-style steel guard has an embossed Dragon symbol, while the open-ended pommel facilitates the fitting of a tassel. This Jians comes with a single-hand grip and scabbard made from fiberglass for extreme durability. A unique feature is the “duck-bill lock” in the bottom of the scabbard that securely holds the sword in place.  Ships Separately, No Express Shipping available on this item.

I absolutely love this sword. I purchased this Jian a couple of years back from another site; however M.R.'s has a great price. Something they do not mention on here is that Sifu Adam Hsu used a new method of placing small groves in particular places around the hand running down the length of it. The groves are amazing as they help you’re your propioception in the hand that allows for a better feel of the movements, in both solo forms and in sparing, as it help in feeling how much force is being applied by your opponent and weather he/she is feinting or truly striking. This is something that has never been used before in the Jian T’ai Chi sword before. It truly is a masterpiece and any sword lover should have one in their collection.

I wouldn't call the grip "fiberglass" (or call the sword a "Jianm" or "Jians" either) - whatever it is its high-quality, sturdy & good looking. The jian has an exceptional feeling of quickness in the hand & the workmanship is top-level... 's quite pretty, too. At such a reasonable price this is a really great jian. I'm totally in love with mine.

I bought this to use in everyday Gung Fu pratice and love it. It fast and rigid, I only wish I had waited for the wood handled/scabbard version.
