This mail is terrible. It is not at all historically accurate. First, Roman lorica hamata(mail) was made with solid and riveted rings, butted mail was only used in Asia. Second, Roman mail had shoulder doubling for added protection. Third, from a practical point of view, riveted mail is much stronger and provides much better protection in simulated combat, whereas butted mail rings can be forced open and are more easily damaged.
