This mail is terrible. It is not at all historically accurate. First, Roman lorica hamata(mail) was made with solid and riveted rings, butted mail was only used in Asia. Second, Roman mail had shoulder doubling for added protection. Third, from a practical point of view, riveted mail is much stronger and provides much better protection in simulated combat, whereas butted mail rings can be forced open and are more easily damaged.

I received this yesterday and I am very pleased. I'm pretty thin and thought it may not fit well, but it fits great, but for bigger folks I'm sure it would fit fine. There isn't any leather trim at the arms as the description states, and there is one stud, not "studs" but neither fact bothers me. I also got the black mail coif and although these two may have never been worn together in the past they look great together. The two together are pretty comfortable and the weight is easy to get used to after wearing for a short time.
