Can be used for any spear since the beginning of the Iron Age, from Viking to Medieval and more. Well made of mild steel, and give an improved appearance as well as balancing the spear. Nice Protective End Piece for Spear
This is the perfect end piece for a spear of the Hoplite or Viking type. It prevents the ash wood pole from rotting at one end when being used as a pike and also counter-balances the spear for throwing if that is what you want to do with it. It also acts as a blunt force weapon that gives you two ends to fight with. Mainly, though, it is a good idea for preserving the wooden end of the spear from coming into contact with wet surfaces.

Finishes the project nicely.
When paired with the Viking Spear Head and a hardwood staff, the butt cap give the finishing touch to the project. Seals the end of the staff from being splintered or damaged by rough terrain or concrete floors.

Excellent
I used this cap with the hewing spear tip and a 6-foot pole. I was concerned about adding more weight, but it actually feels lighter because the balance is so much improved! I think this brought the center of gravity of the long spear back about a foot. I drilled holes to match those on the hewing tip to secure it. Looks great too.
