This medieval Maldon Seax knife is from Windlass Steelcrafts Battlecry collection. Fitted to a sword-style hilt, the Maldon sax is a size that serves roles as working knife as well as combat dagger. This is a solid and well balanced piece. The blade shape features a thick back edge that uniquely curves down toward a straight point providing the Sax with slashing potential as well as chopping force. Rely on it alone or match it to the Maldon sword as a fighting set. Designed specifically to be used and made from 1065 high carbon steel with a darkened, battle-hardened finish, extra wide tang and tempering to a low 50's RC. This pre-sharpened blade has gone through rigorous testing. The hands-on nature of the manufacturing by master smiths makes this line unique. Includes a matching scabbard with belt stop, custom packaging and certificate of authenticity signed by each smith that touched your blade through every step of the forging process.

The variety of different historical knives and daggers is immense. Yet many can be traced back in some part to only a handful of proven designs. One of the most practical and functional is one that’s not widely known, the Viking Sax. As both a serviceable tool and deadly weapon this is the little brother to its better known larger sibling, the Viking sword. Whether hidden behind a shield, worn on the belt, or left upright free-standing in a wooden block or sticking in the railing and posts of a longship, it was always kept handy.

I purchased this along with the Maldon Viking Sword and couldn't be more pleased! These are weapons to be reckoned with! I'm seriously considering a Battle Cry Bosworth Longsword because I'm so impressed with this new line. This Seax feels like a dream in the hand. Keep up the great work MRL and Windlass... I'm spreading the news!

there are VERY minor flaws (i really had to look for them) that can be expected from any hand made knife. The first thing i did was take this knife out and put it through its paces. i cut bamboo and woody brush and took a couple of swings at an oak log. (i know voids the warranty and is risky). The balance and speed of this knife are amazing. It does lose out in the chopping department compared to my old Bowie but the balance is much nicer for fighting. after all the abuse this knife still was sharp enough to cut paper smoothly and had no evidence of damage. overall one of the best knives i've ever gotten in that price range.

Absolutely perfect weapon. It's thick blade and great balance make it a dream to hold and use. As soon as I got it, I took it out and put it through some heavy use. It took it all and still looks amazing and hasn't quit cutting yet. I love the finish (and yes, you can polish it) and everything else about it. Couldn't possibly be happier with a sword/knife of this type. Great product, Windlass!

I was ready to buy a Maldon SEAX and possibly the sword until I saw the finish put on the blade. WHY?? My opinion only, it ruined the series for me.

This knife is absolute perfection, from the balance to the weight. The sheath is beautiful and the blade slides free with no effort making it a dream to draw. My only regret is we live in a world where I can't carry this everywhere I go.

Some fit and finish issues but this is a really solid product in terms of functionality especially given the price. Great edge retention and durability, even when put under stress.
