OVERVIEW

This medieval Bosworth Longsword is from Windlass Steelcrafts Battlecry collection. Designed specifically to be used and made from 1065 high carbon steel with a darkened, battle-hardened finish, extra wide tang and tempering to a low 50s RC. This pre-sharpened blade has gone through rigorous testing. The hands-on nature of the manufacturing by master smiths makes this line unique. Includes a leather frog and matching scabbard with belt stop, and certificate of authenticity signed by each smith that touched your blade through every step of the forging process.

The longsword was a central weapon of the Science of Defence and an indispensable part of the chivalric art of arms for centuries. This sword is no exception. A beautifully proportioned weapon with dynamic handling qualities, it is a harmony of mass and dimension. With a long, semi-tapered diamond cross-section fitted to a round ergonomic pommel on a double-handed grip, this is a fine example of the perfection that was achieved in this popular design. Against any opposing arms or armor, it was capable of quick deadly cuts as well as accurate and forceful thrusts.

Aptly named for the bloody late 15th-century battle during the War of the Roses, the Bosworth is a fast and capable war sword adeptly able to execute the deadly “Mastercut” techniques so closely associated with double-handed blades of the period. With a slim handle that virtually begs to be gripped in the diverse and effective winding actions that this kind of sword ideally allowed, it features a surprisingly small heft for its size. This ebony-toned “queen of weapons” is perfectly suited to foot-combat in war, judicial duel, or knightly challenge. This is a substantial and graceful weapon that will leave the wielder every confidence it could readily defend life if called upon. Discover with it just why this form of longsword was respected for centuries and celebrated against whatever it encountered.

Spectacular
I just got my Bosworth sword, and everything was better than described! Perfect blade symmetry,  Perfect sharpening,  plus it's so incredibly light and expertly balanced for a long blade. Worth every penny. This sword will exceed all your expectations for fit finish, and sheath as well. Pumpkins beware, the craftsman at Windlass are doing an incredible job.  Thanks for making my day!

Superb construction, BUT....
Just got this sword and I'm pretty happy with it. It's extremely sturdy, however after closely examining the blade I have noticed that it isn't completely straight. Looking down the flat side of the sword I can see the blade veers slightly off to the right and Looking straight down the edge it is also veers slightly off. Not enough to really notice unless you look at it more closely. Kinda wished it was more straight, but I don't think it's enough to go through the trouble of returning it. Like I said even with that being the case with the one I got it is still a very strong sword and would definitely stand up to some serious use. The fit and finish on mine was also very nice looking and the handle is very nicely done. I don't believe the blade being the way it is is going to effect the function of the weapon. It is still a well constructed sword that has a good weight and very good balance.  For the price point I wasn't expecting a perfect product. For what you pay it is an excellent budget sword.

Most impressive
I have been after this sword for years. The price was a bit high and it seemed whenever I had the funds it was out of stock. I jumped on it this time!

It arrived packed very well and secure. The first impression was that it was extremely light for its size. My second impression was how similar the oval handle felt to a katana.

Fast in the hand and sharp enough to shave a gnat’s arse

This is my third piece from the Battlecry line and each one is more impressive than the last

Light and Fast Sword
Really well made sword at great price.
Its light and fast for a two hands sword.
Fit and finish is well too.
Scabbard is simple but correct.
Factory sharp enough to cut water bottle

I Love It
I'm not sure why they have these white plastic strips in the scabbard. I know it's something about keeping the sword from touching the wood, rattling around, wiping the oil off, moisture, the tip digging into the scabbard, yadda yadda. But why THIS material? It's so sloppy. The sword is flawless. Just take out those whack strips. Feels very light for how long it is. I love it.

Love it my first long sword
Was reluctant at first because of the black finish but now I regret nothing it’s an awesome  sword for the budget range my only complaints are the stitching in the hilt is uncomfortable and my pommel is a little loose just a little and I would of appreciated a lefty option for the frog but as a whole a great budget sword

Finally got it
I have wanted this sword since I first saw it. Three years later I finally got it. I am surprised at how light it is. Feels like it be can used all day with one hand but why would you want too. Beautifully crafted with a nice sharp edge. This I will pass on to my son.

Great training sword
Balance and overall handling is very good. Better than some much more expensive swords. The only slight criticism I have is with fit and finish. The guard feels slightly too angular and can bite into the hand if you don't pay attention. The pinning is also quite messy. These however are very minor issues when you take the price into consideration. Excellent value for money.

Even better than expected
This may be my favorite piece in the entire Battlecry collection (and I own the enitre line).  It's beautifully balanced, the fit and finish are excellent, and just has this air about it that it could f--- stuff up if you needed it to. Deadly is an overused term in the reproduction market, but in this case.....very appropriate.

Can't go wrong - solid, durable Type XV longsword
This is a really good, interesting longsword.  Its specs are almost identical to the popular Cold Steel Italian Longsword, but it's more sturdily constructed - using a peened construction - and feels distinctly different in hand.  It's the same Type XV-style blade.  Although this style is noted for its thrusting prowess - with a needle-like tip and stiff, diamond-section blade, when you get this thing in your hands you will instantly recognize that this is an incredibly nimble, vicious longsword which would deliver powerful cuts against any unfortunate target.

The blade itself has an interesting coating - it looks kinda like stone (granite or some kinda marble).  I like the effect, even though it's obviously not historic.

The pommel is a scent-stopper style, which feels solid.  The peen itself is excellent.

I also have the aforementioned Cold Steel Italian (which I also love).  Between the two, the Bosworth takes it for construction quality, with a stiffer blade and the solid hilt construction.  The CS feels just slightly more nimble, but at the cost of construction quality.

Christmas Present
This was a late (because it was backordered) Christmas present from my wife and I could not be more pleased!

Huge longsword, but wonderfully weighted so that it feels great in the hand (one or two).

I highly recommend it to anyone wanting a battle-ready longsword!

It is a killer and I bought the Crecy War Dagger to go with it.

Great Sword...Modified.
I had long been struggling with purchasing this sword. I love the design, but was not a fan of the blackened look. My answer....I got it and strpped all the blackening off the blade, guard and pommel. Then polished all to a mirror finish. It's not an easy task. It took two days to complete, but it is now a jewel in my collection. Light, well balanced, well constructed. Very happy with the purchase. I just wished Windlass offered these in non-blacked versions. Highly recommend, stripped or blackened.

Amazing sword!
This is one incredible and fast sword!  After owning it for some time I came to the conclusion that this is one of the best swords you can purchase at this price, especially for this blade style!

Excellent sword
Large greatsword, but so well-balanced as to feel relatively light in the hand.  Also pleased with the scabbard and frog that came with the sword.   Everything of excellent quality.  I bought  the Agincourt dagger as a companion piece (although I wish they  had a larger dagger to go with the Bosworth Longsword!)

An excellent choice (aguably the best) for practicing longsword
A very nicely done sword. It handles extremely well thanks to a very well designed blade geometry which finely tapers to a very nice tip ideal for a good thrusting sword. The blade is not excessively flexible and is tempered so as to have a good amount of stiffness to it, making it further optimized for the thrust. The blade finish has a pleasant black marble look, much better than the more commonly seen blued steel on other vendor's products. The grip is the real luxury of this sword as the leather is stitched and of surprisingly nice quality, considering the price. The riser pattern beneath the leather provides added contours for a nice grip and the pommel is perfectly shaped to be utilized for complex rotations in the lower hand when gripped.

I have noticed that there is some notable vibration that has developed near the pommel over the course of the sword seeing regular use, so the sword's construction may have not been perfectly done. I do not consider this to be a fatal flaw as it is only noticeable when the pommel is forcefully struck or there is significantly strong impact on the lower portion of the blade just past the center of percussion. During drills and handling the sword does not demonstrate any problematic sensations, so I do not think it is a severe issue. It should give one pause when pondering whether to charge into battle  (if one were so inclined) with this particular weapon however.

However, given the price point, the sword serves as an excellent training tool for practicing martial arts and there isn't much which can compete with it. It truly handles perfectly and the grip is so nicely done that it's a solid choice for the swordsman who desires a fast and agile blade that sings in the hand(s). A great choice.
