Historical Excalibur Sword

#500798
$225.00

If King Arthur actually existed, many historians place him as a war leader seeking to halt the invasion of the Saxons after the fall of Rome. There are many indications that England did, after a time of much strife, have a brief period of peace and prosperity in what is now called "the Dark Ages". This sword is of a type that was widely in use during this period and would be what a hard fitting warrior would prefer. Nicely balanced, well tempered high carbon steel blade offset with antiqued brass parts. Period scabbard included. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts. Can be sharpened for additional fee.

I purchased this sword a short time ago, I have wanted it for as long as I can remember. Because it was closeout I made the choice and bought it. I am a historical weapons collector, and my specialty both in history and weapons is roman times and after the fall of rome. This sword is spectacular, one of the most historically accurate versions I have ever seen. In fact I would go so far as to say that this is the most accurate we can get at this time. It could have been the sword in the stone itself. Customer service did a fabulous job telling me when it was shipped and tracking it. I am very impressed and will order from MR again.

Though it is a fine weapon - a bit blade heavy and not as quick as it might otherwise be - and well made, my research suggests that this sword is a bit late in time to qualify as an "Arthurian" weapon. You would probably need to replicate a late Roman spatha (cavalry sword)to be more representative of the period. New historical research suggests that the real "Arthur" was one "Owain Ddantgwyn" of 5th century England and that Arthur was a combination of his Old English and Latin nickname, "The Bear." Joe Brown

My favorite sword in my collection. It is very well made. Sword length is also ideal. The hilt could be slightly longer to improve leverage
