17th Century Italian Rapier
Click to Review
A beautifully executed 17th Century rapier with a very complex hilt and faceted pommel. The grip is hand wound with silver plated wire with woven wire rings top and bottom. The hand forged, high carbon steel, fully tempered blade features a wide fuller to lighten and strengthen it for thrusting and the heavy ricasso provides extra strength to the main stress area. Top quality, genuine leather scabbard with deeply engraved floral pattern on the throat and tip. This type of sword was deadly effective as a dueling weapon. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts.
- Overall: 46"
- Blade: 35-1/2" long, 13/16" wide, 3/16" thick
- Wt: 2 lbs/8 oz
I have ever been expanding my collection, and I had a few swords on my "Must Buy When Deal of the Day" list, this was one of them. My collection comprises of mainly Oakeshott style swords and this was my first rapier.
I had found that many rapiers are either too plain or too gaudy. This sword strikes the perfect balance of elegance. Being of Italian decent, I feel my inner fencer come to life while I hold this sword.
The handle wrap is stunning and high quality. The sword overall has a wonderful balance between blade and pommel. It is lightning fast with a strong wrist and the twisted hilt is even better in person.
The scabbard is a typical Windlass scabbard, not as exquisite as their swords, but it is definitely higher quality than some I have seen.
Although I bought this deal of the day, it is well worth the full price amount. You won't be sorry.
